Student Placement at ZSFG

Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) is happy to provide opportunities for students from San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) affiliated academic programs to engage in experiential learning in the hospital.

The Department of Education and Training (DET) ensures that the mission of the organization is met by offering training and education opportunities to support a continuous learning culture.

About the Process

Whether you are a student, faculty, school, or a potential ZSFG preceptor, please review the following information to begin the student placement process:

  1. Students cannot be placed at any San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) location or program, including the ZSFG campus, without first executing a Student Training Agreement Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). These MOUs apply to all SFDPH agencies and programs and are managed by the SFDPH Contracts Management and Compliance Office, not individual DPH agencies or programs.
  2. For the current list of active Agreements, please check the Approved List of Schools and Programs.
  3. If the school or academic program is not on the Approved List of Schools and Programs, the school’s program coordinator or other representative can complete the program’s Student Placement Agreement to begin the approval process.

Please note, the approval process can take up to 3 months or longer after the completed form has been received.

Please Note

Establishing an Agreement with SF DPH does not guarantee a placement opportunity within ZSFG. ZSFG considers multiple factors to determine our ability to accommodate student placements and these factors are evaluated every semester. The University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) has a separate process for managing medical student placements. Contact the UCSF Medical Education Department for more information.

At present, ZSFG is NOT able to accommodate any new RN, NP, & PA program affiliations.
