Holiday Festivities at ZSFG

As the year came to an end, we capped off December in reflection and celebration at the hospital. The Patient Experience team and UCSF’s Dean’s Office organized opportunities for staff to give back to the community – organizing a Toy Drive where donations were shared with the Pediatric patients and shared with the community through the Jewish Family and Children’s Services Gift Drive, Toys for Tots, and the SFFD Toy Program.

SFDPH, ZSFG & General Hospital Foundation Cohost Addiction Care Symposium Supporting RN Education

More than 200 nursing and other staff from ZSFG and DPH attended an all-day Addiction Care Symposium in Carr Auditorium co-sponsored by SFDPH, ZSFG’s Addiction Care Team, and the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation. The event focused on helping staff address substance use disorders. The 2nd annual symposium offered participants valuable insights into best practices in opioid and stimulant use disorder treatment, communicating with patients effectively, alcohol withdrawal, and the Addiction Care Team Nurse Liaison Program.

ZSFG’s Skilled Nursing Facility named 2025 Best Nursing Homes

U.S. News recognized the 30-bed Skilled Nursing Facility at ZSFG as one of the “2025 Best Nursing Homes” – earning the highest possible achievement with a “High Performing” rating and an overall rating of 5 out of 5. The hospital is now part of the elite 19% of SNFs who have been recognized for providing essential care to our community of patients requiring short-term rehabilitation following a hospitalization for surgery, heart attack, stroke, injury or similar condition. Congratulations to the entire 4A Skill Nursing Facility team at ZSFG for being recognized as one of U.S. News 2025 Best Nursing Homes.

ZSFG Appoints Two New Nursing Directors

ZSFG recently appointed two seasoned staff members to join its nursing leadership team. ZSFG appointed Merjo Roca as Nursing Director of Specialty Care. Merjo was the Nurse Manager for the ZSFG Urgent Care Center and the ZSFG Patient Vaccine Clinic. Merjo has a diverse leadership background in outpatient and inpatient nursing, a passion for performance improvement and increasing teamwork, and a love for teaching, coaching and mentoring staff.

Paintings by Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera Return to Zuckerberg San Francisco General

After a seven-year hiatus, a pair of paintings by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera have returned to the new Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. During construction of the new hospital building, the paintings were shown locally and internationally, from the SF Museum of Modern Art to exhibitions in Mexico, Rome, Berlin, and Vienna, and were then carefully packed away in storage awaiting their reinstallation in the new lobby.
