As the weather begins to cool and days begin to shorten, here are some simple tips to stay healthy!
With cold and flu season approaching, be sure to stay up to date on your flu and Covid-19 vaccines! All SFHN patients can get their flu shots at ZSFG in Building 5 Lobby, from 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. (no appointments necessary)
As days begin to cool and sunlight decreases, make your mental health a priority. Try out new hobbies such as sports or crafts, or perhaps, try out occasional digital detoxes. Reach out to a loved one or your care provider if you need help.
Fall is full of delicious harvest such as pumpkin, squash, beets, okra and cranberries – all packed with a wealth of nutrition. It’s also a great opportunity to try out a new recipe!
As temperatures drop this season, it’s still a good idea to get outdoors to maintain overall wellness as it can improve mental health, lowers heart rate and blood pressure, and we can still get the Vitamin D we need! (Don’t forget the sunscreen and a light jacket or scarf in preparation for the microclimates!)
Make an appointment to visit your primary care provider and dentist for a checkup and preventative services as well as to discuss any health concerns you may have.
While it’s not required in the community, consider masking if you have been exposed to COVID-19, if you spend indoor time with someone who is vulnerable, or when you are indoors during times when the virus is circulating in the population at high levels. If you are at higher risk of becoming severely ill, consider masking when in indoor public settings with poor ventilation or when traveling on public transportation. Note that masks are still required in healthcare settings where patients may be present.
Use soap and clean running water for 20 seconds to keep your hands clean and reduce the spread of germs.
Get your COVID-19 and Flu vaccines to protect yourself and others against illness. If you are 60 years or older, talk with your healthcare provider about the RSV vaccine.
Let’s enjoy all that Fall has to offer in a safe and healthy manner!
